"somebody put something in my drink..."

I'm not 100% positive but I believe the title line is from the Ramones. And damn, if somebody didn't put something in my drink today.
It was quite cold out today so I opted for the basement...mistake you jackass. I did not have any movies so I watced NewWorldDisorder6 and part of Kranked5. I always bring a water bottle down with an energy drink and fill a Nalgene bottle up with the faucet in the basement. Half way through the ride I am drinking from the Nalgene, about 1/2 gone, and something "odd" is in my mouth (no smartass commets please, I get the reference). I spit it back into the bottle for examination. I was unable to determine what it was so I put everything on pause and dumped the bottle into the sink. DAMN, it's a flippin slug and that was in my GD mouth!

I figure it had crawled up into the faucet as I use it only a few times a year. Damn desgusting.
Since I broke my little toe yesterday, (a different story), I was only able to squeak out an hour. Long enough on a trainer watching FreeRide videos, or so that is what I am going to say.
I got a phone message yesterday from the boys out in Colorado and they want to do the Dakota five-O. I'm in and all set or there abouts.

O.K. so the phone was ringing, I was feeding Avery, running for the phone, phone not in the craddle, see it on the other side of the couch, dash to it...and stub my freaking little toe on the edge=broken damn toe.

OUT.

One Cool Dad!

No, not me...although I like to think I am a "cool" dad sometimes.
For Christmas a guy came into the shop and bought a mountain bike for his son. Ordered up a set of studded tires and fenders. The kid bikes to school everyday all year long! One of me coworkers spotted him ripping it up on his way home from school. The only thing visible were two eyes!
Way to go!

Slick!

Slick...thanks, I got your back too!

4 Hour God Damn Hours...and I'm Tired

Minnesota rides in winter...who is dumb enough? Well, I guess I am, go figure. I originally planned on a 2 hour ride today, but when friend Matt asked to ride, I was all set to go...but 4 hours! Damn, am I out of shape. I would have never mentioned it to Matt but by the last hour I was done. Yes, I have work to do and thanks Matt for helping me get there...and the pics below. There were more but blogger hates me so you get two. Nice Surly Pacer...where can I get one? Well I'd check Revolution Cycle and Skihttp://www.revolutioncycleandski.com.
Again thanks Matt for the pics. I need a new cell phone, and Mad Dawg maybe you can skip class and make it next time.
Out.

X-Mess Party #1...perfect...well...almost!

Start a new shop and you have to have a Christmas Party, right? We decide to go to Jack and Jim's. Having never been there, I was not too sure what to expect. Pulling into the parking lot I realized we should have driven a pick-up truck. Once inside it was Artic Cat vs. Polaris, John Deere vs. International, Chevy vs. Ford...you get the idea: we were wearing the wrong jackets! But the food for some reason was to die for. Damn was that good, bloody meat. Of course the two Johnny Walker Reds I had before we sat down would make White Castle taste like...hell, I don't know, just better damn it.
Food all gone we thought we should hit up a local "dive" bar. It was packed, the bartender really needed a "better" bra, and some of us were underage.
Quick answer was the Knotty Pine (12 pack of PBR, Liter of Vodka, six pack of Saint Pauly, and a fifth of Blackberry Brandy...yummy).
Back at Revolution we got a little funky...or at least I did. I don't remember, ask Josh. The wife was responsible and headed home to take over kid duty. I stayed behind and shook my ass. That's a lot of shakin!
Came up with the bright idea to go to Sugar Daddy's. Some agreed and we were on the way. Damn do I love $5 water. Second "adult entertainment" club of my life and they sure beat the first: "Fuzzy's" of Duluth.
It's January 14th and I have gotten my "dumb" thing out-of-the-way, right Mike!

Unexpected Day Off, or partial at least.

Woke up this morning with Brinna staring me in the face. She's sick which means dad stays home. It's o.k. I'm the boss, or one of three. I was kind of bummed since this will be the first real cold commute of the winter, -2 without the wind chill. Just got off the weather page and looks like I will still have a cold commute when I head into work for the evening shift. Watched some movies, read some books, and made this killer cardboard house...damn am I handy!

Brinna went down for a nap and I went down to the basement for the first ride of the year on the trainer. Hour later I'm done and bored. Watched "Transition" and I kept having to fast forward through Adam Hodges Myers bitching...damn.
Time to shower and clean the house.
Out.

4 Months and 1 Day Later...

Yep...did my first road ride this morning since Sept. 9th. Which happened to be the Henderson TT. I've been mtn. biking and commuting but never the full on road thing. Damn was it windy and trying to take a leak with bib tights, bib shorts, and mittens on is somewhat interesting. I think I may have dribbled on myself. Oh well I have enough snot on my jacket and mittens to cover anything up. Gotta love MN biking.
Where's the damn snow?
Gotta head to work,
Out.

I Did It!

Finally, after way too long, I biked to work today. Once you take a break it's hard to get back at it. It's amazing at the excuses I would come up with. My biggest is getting yelled at, "use the fucking sidewalk". I am sick of it, it puts me in a shitty mood. The commute has changed since I have a different job and therefore a different route. I get to go by SCSU...that is always a joy. College drivers on the cell phone, putting on makeup, and smoking a cigarette equals tagged biker. I take the sidewalk when my commute home at night coincides with an SCSU Hockey night, cause that college driver is now drinking. Riding wide eyed.
The picture above is from a commute last year, we have yet to have snow like that yet. What gives?

Searching For a Long-Ass Event

It has occurred to me that I have become, well, lazy. Without boring you, yet again, with all my excuses (I have many) I ask you to just trust me: I am lazy, lethargic, and comatose after 5 pm.
It has also occurred to me that time is very important and lacking when you have two young girls and have just started a business, Revolution Cycle and Ski. That was a shameless plug, but damn it...it's my blog. And I suppose those are excuses too, sorry.
That being said, I figure I need to focus on just a few long events, most likely on the mtn. bike. I do not have the time to train as much as the past to be competitive on the road. So why not an all day long event on the mtn bike. A good 'ol hare and tortoise story!
Any suggestions. The closer to MN the better. I have been looking at a 100 mile race/event in MI, Lumberjack something or other.
Out and as always thanks for reading!

Finally Snow...well Sort of

We actually got some snow. It started hard and heavy, but pretty much stopped after a couple hours leaving us with 2" or so.
The family and I went to some friends house to celebrate the New Year. It was a good time with too much food and booze. Went for a 2 hour hike at 1 am. Damn that ice was slippery! Still cannot figure out why my elbow hurts?
Nothing special on the 1st of the year...should have biked but tried to nap instead, I suck at napping.
Ran year end reports at Revolution Cycle and Ski...no snags!
In fear that the 40 plus degrees will melt the little snow we have, I took my 3 year old daughter sledding. It was like sledding down a hill covered in ice. Wicked fast and fun. We need more snow, now!
