Wheels.

I'm addicted to wheels.

To me they are the best part of a bike, and the first part of a bike that needs upgrading.

I am a huge fan of traditional wheels, 32 hole, 3x, hand built.

I have built my own wheels before. A long time ago. Wheel building can be done by following the "rules" but the build is lacking.

Wheel building is an art, and those that have this, take a pride in their builds, a quality that I do not have.

I have personally know three such wheel builders.
I just retired a set of wheels built by one of those builders. The wheel was a Phil Wood single-speed hub laced to a Salsa Delgado Cross rim. This build lasted some severe beatings, only to require very minimum truing, EVER! The only reason for the retirement was the rims were becoming very concave. The hubs have since been re laced and used on a different bike.
Once I get our "own" computer I will post pics of my wheel collection. I have some sweet wheels, thanks to the builders in my life.
Thanks.

Later.

Tony can build a set of wheels. I still am riding all the wheels he built for me.

speaking of wheels, I have a wheel question. not about the zipps - which I am totally down wif, but the roads down here are war zones of broken everything. I have had 3 or 4 flats. the tubeless wheelset is great it gets me home every time without having to carry anything. the problem is what do I do post-flat? the sealant will work if you're moving, but isn't a permanent fix. I sort of don't want to have to pull-patch-and stans every time I get a flat, but I also don't want to blow $80 on a new tire every time either. I love the ride and convenience of the tubeless, but not at this rate of attrition. you thoughts?

Get a motorcycle.

or...

run more durable tires and get tubes.

I don't know if there are more durable tubeless tires.

yep. my favorite wheel is still the blue deep-V that you guys built for me last year, still true after no small amount of abuse on the steamroller's backside. zooooom
