It has been pretty dry in and around the vicinity of Trans Iowa the past few weeks. The end of last week and the next couple days have changed that and made the B roads (our minimum maintenance roads) a sloppy mess. This has me second guessing my bike choice. Currently I am set on using my Salsa Ti La Cruz but the rear tire clearance pretty much sucks on this bike. Salsa claims a 700x38 tire fits but I'm sceptical. Huge bummer since I lover everything else about it. I could use the heavier, but sturdier and more tire clearance, Surly Long Haul Trucker, but I want to use the Salsa. So a new rear tire is going on today. More of a "touring" tire but that should work just fine. This tire is actually what I prefer to use but am a little nervous to test it in muddy conditions. Not to mention getting a "newer" bike all muddy kind of sucks too. But that's why I have bikes, to ride them.
Ah the joy of the prerace game!
Out.
