It wasn't meant to be.
I mean who am I kidding, an easy Tuesday Night Ride?
At the start Jimmy was off the front going hard. The group resisted and let him go. So far in fact we lost visual on him. The power and lure of the group was too much and he sat up and let us catch up. Climbing the 4 Whores all took off and pushed themselves. I stuck to my guns and soft pedaled over the hills. But yeah, that was it. After that it was on. My legs are definitely feeling the effects of too many miles in the past 3 weeks and currently are rubber chickens.
So today will be a recovery ride, Thursday off, and Friday a light spin. Saturday brings the Northwoods Tri in Nevis with Sunday giving us the State Championship Road Race in Richmond.
I am doing the Tri and have committed to the road race. Last night we rode the course. Had we rode the course first I don't think I would have committed. Damn is it hilly. I jokingly wondered how I could lose 40 lbs between now and Sunday!?
But as it turns out I have misscommunicated with my family...ok maybe not communicated at all. I forget no one can hear the conversations in my head. The plan was to stay over night in Nevis after the Tri at on of Jen's teacher friends place. So I guess I sort of get my wish of not doing the road race. Truthfully I do want to do it, but riding has been so paramount for me this summer that I know I need to let some riding slide and spend some time doing "other stuff"
There are always other races and next year.
Sorry Jimmy et al.
Speaking of races, I'd like to do something in September. I know there is the Dakota 5-0, but that has filled. Sept 24th is our race in town, which I will be busy working at...besides I am not a fan of the series events. The Wisconsin Endurance Series (WES) has a 12 hour race, which I would do, but it is from 8 pm to 8 am. All at night, so you're shot the whole next day. No thanks. After doing some research I have not come up with too much. I put up a post on FB asking for suggestions and my mom told be to start my own....hmmmm.
So that is what I think I may do. It will be very unofficial, more of a group ride...or so I am thinking. Big miles, like somewhere between 100-200. If it happens it will fall within the first 3 weeks. Of course it will be gravel...or half and half. I kind of like that name: The Stearns County Half and Half.
Time will tell. I mean we still have a lot of work to do on the upcoming Dirt Bag, like send an e-mail to all the participants, ugh.
So till next time...
Out.

What! there goes our whole tactical plan. oh well.
Id say im about 50/50 on committing to the half and half ride.
Next year have the Dirtbag in Septmeber instead of the middle of CX season.
I don't do the Dirtbag in Sept. since the shop is a bit more busy and we have the mtb race at the end. The Half and Half, if it happens, will be a very laid back ride if anything. Besides this way I am able to ween out the roadies and cyclocross weenies from infiltrating the pureness that is gavel racing!
Laid back ride...LOL! I've heard that before, If you have it I'll come ready for the Half & Half death march.
Half & half. Half during the day and half at night.
