After I finalized the previous post I went off to bed and did my usual magazine perusing and checked in on "the" social networking sites, don't want to miss anything! Jen called, she was at her folks. I told her of my plans. She told me I was crazy for getting up that early and that I should at least sleep till 6:00, and that they wouldn't be home till later Sunday afternoon. Yeah, yeah, whatever. But when the alarm went off at 4:00 am her voice rang in my head and it made a lot of sense: snooze...snooze...snooze! Finally got up, readied myself, etc.
Out the door and on the bike by 6:30 or so. Just a bit off!
I didn't have a "set-in-stone" route but knew I would be riding E to NE to N to back home. Also knew I was looking for as much new gravel as possible. Lately I have fallen into the same ol routes, only switching up when the wind allowed.
I headed East till I hit Milacs County. From that point on I headed North. I knew the temp when I left but underestimated my ability to stay warm and the rate at which the temp would rise. Around 9:30 I stopped in Foreston for some coffee and a chance to warm my fingers and toes. Coming out of the gas station the skies had cleared and it was a sunny day!
Continued in a northern pattern just shy of Hillman in Morrison County. Here I started the Westward push. So far I found some really neat, desolate gravel roads. Many in Morrison County were in poor shape. Nothing the Fargo couldn't handle. Man I love that bike more and more.
I snaked my way over to Buckman for a refill on fluids and made the push for home.
Ended with 110 miles, 7 hours, and a smile. Great ride.
Let the week begin.
Later.
