Tuesday Group Ride?...yeah right!

Grumpy Ben is making a return.
Actually as I write this I'm cool (not Fonzie cool, but just cool), but at the time I was less than happy.

To start I was excited.  The Giant TCR Advanced SL 2 was built and ready to rock and I was able to attend the ride!  The weather wasn't as nice as during the rest of the day but hell, riding is riding.

Off the bat the pace was hot, typical and to be expected on these rides.  I could tell I haven't been on too many of these as the legs were taking a wee bit longer to come around.  Slowly I came into my groove and felt pretty damn good, both riding and on the new bike (may have to cut the isp down a bit more but that's it).
About 30-35 minutes in we hit a 1/4 mile gravel section.  We rocked this out at 26 mph!  Awesome!  This split the field some and not all were able to jump back on.  I sat up to wait and assist in the regroup.  Later Charlie would wait up and later yet Jimmy, but that was it.  We were hitting 28 mph + in attempts to close the gap...seemingly to no avail.  We were dropping riders that we were trying to help bridge the gap.  I started to boil.
I'm truly ok with letting dropped riders go (on Tuesday rides) on the home stretch, but 30-40 minutes in is uncool.
Me being a Doom, or more correctly myself, I had an internal hissy fit and when the time was right I pulled off and rode by myself.  Not gonna lie, had an awesome time from there on out.  I still averaged just under 22mph for 3 hours.

I was done with Tuesday rides until I talked with a couple of riders: one in person and another via text.  The text conversation talked me down and helped me realize that the group is just unorganized and I need to really step it up and dictate what happens.  That and also that many riders feel the same as I do.  It is our (Revolution) group ride.  If some want to make this their personal training ride they can hit up Opus.
I'm still on and ready to rock.

Thanks guys.

Later.

I agree 100% with your last statement. I love to ride hard on these Tues night rides but sometimes personal agenda's need to be checked at the door.
