Yesterday the family and I headed into Wisconsin for me to attempt my first cyclocross race. Having never done one before I was pretty nervous but even more excited. I kind of freaked out on the way there. We were running late and we hit all kinds of construction. It all worked out, just some wasted energy on my part!
I signed up for the single speed category. We raced with all the Masters and Elite women. Having never done a cross race before and being next to last in registration I was called up almost last. I was in the last row. It's actually where I wanted to be. Needed to figure things out on my own.
The women started 2 minutes in front of us, then the rest of us (54 strong) took off. I now understand the importance of the hole shot. The first lap was a congested mess, but fun. Lots of navigating around riders and figuring out the course. So different from any other kind of race I've done. I had a smile on most of the time. The others were times of gasping for air...the gas was on.
Running up the log steps. I'm the 3rd person. Heard some rode this...say what?!
The look of I need more air!
My race was 45 minutes long. At the onset I was questioning the point of only 45 minutes but once it's on I got it. Awesome.
In that 45 minutes I was able to work my way up. I really didn't have an idea of where I was. From starting in the back I ended up 15th overall and 5th single speed. Getting on the podium would have been sweet, but pretty stoked with 5th. Best yet is my ankle and knees didn't complain at all!!!! Taped the ankle and that seemed to work very well.
Stoked for next weekend, hitting up Theo. Looking at the logistics of this Tuesday Night in the Cities as well!
ADDICTED.
Even Harper got out to cheer the old guy on! My favorite pic of her!
Thanks to my family for putting up with me yesterday.
The plan for today was to run or take the Fargo out for a few hours before work but Harper was rocking till midnight or 1 and all kinds of other shit needed and still needs attention.
Trying to play cool and not freak but you know me...CRAZY!
Tomorrow!
Speaking of tomorrow: we are officially starting the Monday Night Mountain Bike Rides! 8:30 at the North Loop for a couple laps or so. Always a great time so come check it out.
Out.
