Searching out new Gravel.

Around 8:30 I jumped on the Cutthroat and headed North.  The route I took (St. Cloud, Sartell, Rice, Royalton, Little Falls, Camp Ripley, Randall...) was all pavement till Randall.  I was ok with that as I was hoping to find some "new to me" gravel.  At Randall I crossed Highway 10 and started heading west.

The wind had started to pick up out of he west and the gravel was a bit chunky and soft.  So yeah...slow going.  But the roads were great!  Narrow, hilly, surrounded by trees, and plentiful.  It was this that put me in a bind.  I was enjoying the riding so much I wasn't paying attention to time and I miscalculated how far west I was going.  By the time I opted to head south the road I took meandered back to the west. Finally I popped out on highway 27 to realize I was close to Long Prairie.  Uff...I had a ways to get home and on a time line.  Avery's track meet started at 4:15.

I did hit some gravel on the way home but mostly pavement to make up time.  I had a great tailwind at times but it seemed to be swirling some so sometimes if felt like a headwind.

I did make it home in time, but barely!  138 miles in 7 hours 26 minutes.  The track meet was great (as all of Avery's events were first). Then it was back home to celebrate her birthday.  Tonight she's having a friend birthday the involves a sleepover.  I think riding 7 hours is easier!

Happ Weekend.
