Back on the trails!

Man, I lucked out having a great day (weather wise) off and able to ride!  I left home around 8:30 down County Road 8.  I did a short loop at Island View Park before making my way to Palmer.  Just before the turn for Palmer I jumped on the snowmobile trails.  I had intel that they had been freshly groomed the day before.  They set up perfectly. It wasn't till much later that I had to let out air pressure in my tires.

Because of our previously poor winters I hadn't been on these trails for years.  It was so good being back on them.

Edit: video doesn't work after several attempts.  Boo.

The above video is about halfway through my ride.  On Strava I titled my ride "Farm Fields, Ditches, and Groves.  This is from one of the many groves I went through, my favorite sections.  I constantly was surprised by the good snow cover we had.  Even with two+ days of rain around Christmas and crazy winds later on the fields were white and clean!

Solar farms have been popping up all over.

My original plan was to make it up to Rice on snowmobile trails and then take the River Road home. But the trail meandered like a lazy river so much that my time was running out.  I ended up having to back around a bit and jump on pavement for home.

 Airing up for the pavement.

Ride details.

This was the longest I've ridden in almost 8 weeks, and the longest I've ridden my fat bike in almost a year.  I'm pretty happy with how things went.  The knees hurt a bit at they are still getting used to the wider Q-factor and the legs are still adjusting to the ride time and resistance riding that snowmobile trials provide.  My body isn't as efficient yet as well.  I was going through food pretty fast.  I brought more than I normally would need but found myself having to conserve what I had left halfway through the ride.  So yeah...I bonked!

Back home I cleaned up, ate, and ran to get Harper.  Then it was off to watch Brinna at a gymnastics meet.  The bleachers seemed to be made for Harper size people.  I was pretty uncomfortable and stiff!

Tonight our bike club is having Full Moon Fat Bike Ride.  6:00pm at the North Loop.  Dress warmly and join us!

Happy Weekend.
