Thursday was predicted to be 25-30 mph winds out of the NW with some early morning rain. Ugh. I waited till 8:30 to head out. Procrastinating the wind and letting it get light out. Well the wind wasn't at all that bad yet! I took the River Road up to Rice with plans to take it to Little Falls and hit gravel there. About 5 miles to Rice I had to stop and put on my rain jacket. It wasn't too bad but I didn't want my main jacket to get soaked. Eventually the roads became saturated leaving my tires no choice but to spray me with water. Go figure, I've been riding the Cross Check with fenders for sometime but opted to take the Seven Evergreen out! Mostly because I didn't want to battle the wind on a single speed.
Instead of hitting Little Falls I opted to jump on gravel earlier. The gravel soaks up the rain, thus no spray! I was surprised to find the gravel so good! Some spots I had to navigate soupy gravel and it was a bit soft but overall good!
Not bad!
By this time the wind was really picking up. Between the wind and soft gravel my going was slow but damn I was having fun. I'm always amazed at how comfortable that Seven is, even after being off it for 5 months. Once through Swanville I made my way for home...tailwind!
Stats.
The legs are a bit heavy this morning. I hope to ride and hour tonight but we will see. Sunday has a group ride hitting the Dirt Bag course so stoked for that. So grateful for a snowless (so far) March.
Happy Weekend.
