Saturday we had zero plans. Any previous engagements had been canceled, thus a ride was hatched. Coming into a new season, routes that were previously (last fall) becoming mundane have me excited to ride. The E/NE wind on Saturday lended it's hand to one of my favorite gravel routes. Without exaggeration I'd day 85-90% of it was gravel. Considering I have a ways to go to get to gravel this is pretty good. I basically alternate between east and north, making my way to Foreston, just shy of Milaca. After going north for a bit of hwy 23 I start to make my way west, coming in on the north side of Gilman. From Gilman it's a west and south route to Sauk Rapids and home. Great route.
Ride Report.
Sunday a bunch of fellas and I got together to ride the Dirt Bag course. There were 6 of us at the start. All of whom are signed up for the Dirty Kanza at the end of May. Much discussion was had whether we thought it would happen or not. Oddly not a peep from the folks running the event.
We met up at Onyx at 9:30 and made our way to the gravel. The gravel on both Saturday and Sunday was great. Super excited to have it ready so soon. Although snow is in the forecast this week.
Early on, Hubert Road. Neon yellow was popular.
Not having ridden for 11 days prior to the start of last week then putting in 14 hours prior to the ride my legs were feeling the pain a bit. That subsided a couple hours in. The wind wasn't crazy strong but it sure felt it at times. While I'm given shit by my friends for riding alone most of the time I do enjoy a good group ride and this fit the bill pretty dang well.
At a cutoff we stopped to asses the distance the group wanted. The longer course was chosen and we pushed on. After a stop at Lanto's in French Lake to refuel we headed home at a good clip...thanks tailwind!
Once home my legs let me know they were tired. My left knee gave me some grief as well but seemingly better this morning.
Ride Report.
As most know school in MN has been canceled till the 27th. Rumors of a total shut down is out there. No way of knowing what's coming fully so truly it's day by day. All of theses happenings have riding seem less important. I will still ride but my obsession to ride has been severely checked. For now we are running Revolution Cycle and Ski as normal but that may change too. Very weird, scary times.
Ride on.
