Thursday morning I procrastinated riding a bit to let the temperature creep up some. It never really warmed too much under the N/NW winds. In fact I left with a vest on thinking I'd remove it at some point, but nope, stayed on the entire ride.
Early on in the ride. Things are getting green!
I headed east and north on the Cutthroat for the first leg of the ride. I haven't been on the gravel east of 169 and north of Milaca yet this year. I took that all the way up to the Soo Line trail at Onamia, just south of Lake Milacs. I partially hesitated thinking of riding around Milacs, which I've done before. But with fishing opener this weekend and not planning on 200 miles I opted for the Soo Line.
I forgot how shitty the Soo Line is in Mille Lacs County. Uff, it was rough. While there are roads it seems many want to bring you up to 169 by Milacs or they have zero shoulder or if it's gravel it seemingly dead ends. So I took the trail much longer than I wanted to Hillman.
Well the picture doesn't truly show how gnarly the trail was. Plus there is still a bunch of water and many, many washboarded sections.
At Hillman I went north a bit more to get onto some gravel. When I finally made the turn south the tailwind was sweet reprieve from the wind.
The Ride.
Not the fastest ride but there was some gnarly sections for sure. Most importantly my knees never hurt! I'm pretty stoked on this. The left knee is a bit tender at the moment but that is nothing new. A day on the concrete at work does the same.
This morning I'm taking the MTB out for a quick jaunt to spin the legs and ready myself for another day of slinging bikes.
The weekend is looking a bit chilly. A ride Saturday and Mother's Day on Sunday. Then back at it on Monday. Man it's going by so fast.
Happy Weekend.
