The family decided they needed one last trip to my folk's cabin this past weekend. Since I've met my quota of cabin time I opted to stay home, ha! Empty house meant time to ride.
Saturday I took my time getting up and ready. I was still out on the Evergreen by 9:30. Mostly because a storm came through Friday night and again Saturday morning. The wind was listed as light and variable. With no set direction I headed down county road 8 once again. I don't make it out West very often so I made that my destination.
I started in St. Cloud, passing through Clearwater, Fairhaven, Kimball, Richmond, Rosco and I was finally on my way West. It was a bit of a struggle bus at the start but the legs and brain warmed up. After that I was good to go. Not having any set time obligations, etc to get back to sure make riding that much more carefree.
Once I went far enough West I started back North to the Wobegon Trail. I refueled in Freeport. Not wanting to ride the trail I made my way further North to Holdingford. But this time I was able to successfully navigate around that damn city that sucks you in.
I tried to find as many of these as I could. Back in the day this was a favorite of Jimmy B.
It was hot and humid once again. Over 400 oz. of fluids.
The Ride.
Sunday I was up and ready to get back on the Evergreen by 8:30. The humidity and fog were thick. Eventually it would burn off only to be replaced with the sun and high dew points. This time I headed East and North in alternating fashion until I figured I should head home. Downside to riding this direction is there are few, if any, spots to refuel. I know of a few "hole in the wall" c-stores so I made my way there. The first was closed, ugh. My second spot was a gas station/grocery store/bar/liquor store/house set up. And they were open! A Coke never tasted so good!
The Ride.
Going into this past week I had no plans to ride as much as I did, it just worked out that way. I ended with my highest mileage week ever. Super stoked with how I feel. My left knee is a bit sore but nothing like it was earlier this summer. I wish the Arrowhead 135 was next week!
I didn't set an alarm but Toby got up at 5:20. It's sprinkling some so not sure on a ride. If I do it will be an hour easy spin on the mountain bike. I'm getting excited for fall and more time on the mountain bikes.
TIRES: Forgot to mention that I put new tires on the the Evergreen as the Cannonballs were wore out. This time I opted for the Rutlands, mostly as I had a set laying around. Not sure why I deviate from these tires. They roll well, handle the soft stuff great, and grip on climbs.
Have a great week.
