We had a fairly mild and quiet weekend. Saturday was Sand Prairie Day. I spent the entirety of my ride bopping around the trails. I started at the main entrance and got the most used trails out of the way before the walker sand their dogs started to show up. A benefit of starting in the dark. From there I moved to the swamp. I haven't been riding them much so the trail has been windblown and in some cases gone. I spent a good chunk of time doing laps. While repeated laps seems boring I don't mind it, especially when it's making new trails in the snow. Each lap you see your progress. At the completion of each lap, "just one more" will make it better, so you head out for another!
On the swamp stomping in the trail in a windblown section. Fat bike is in the distance.
Completing the swamp section I headed to the new "Toby Trails". They are still not the smoothest but they seem to be getting better every week.
I left Sand Prairie via the North entrance. I crossed hwy 10 and bushwhacked into Friedrich Park. I just did a perimeter loop before heading home.
The Ride.
Both Saturday and Sunday Toby got me up earlier than planned. Before 5 on Saturday and 5:30 on Sunday. I was pretty lazy Sunday morning so I waited till it was light before venturing out. It was pretty mild, almost warm, and low winds. I decided to check out some snowmobile trails I used to ride quite often. I haven't ridden them in a few years now.
They looked way better than I anticipated!
While the trails looked good they were pretty soft. A combination of the temperature, lack of not ever being groomed yet, and low use. We need more snow. Although each day I want snow less and spring/summer more. I aborted the trails after a couple of miles. I was down to super low psi, still digging in, and barely moving. On the gravel I aired back up and did a loop around the Sauk Rapids area and headed home.
The Ride.
The bike was a bit messy so I went to the self use car wash. While in line Jim from Onyx texted me to come use his inside hose. So I got to drool over some hubs and wash my bike at the same time.
Early mornings all week, a big day riding on Thursday, 26 hours riding on the week all had be pretty tired. I was ready for bed before dinner! I shut my alarm for 5:10 this morning off. I'm skipping riding for today. It's been 16 days of straight riding. I may do the rower this afternoon, maybe not.
We have a mild week till Friday then the temps drop. Sunday may not hit zero degrees!
