Bonking is now referred to as "pulling a Matt N."!
Not having any particular route plan I set off down the greatest road ever, cty rd 8. Instead of turning right on hwy 24 into Clearwater, I continued on straight toward Becker. At the end of 8 I rode about 1.5 miles on Hwy 10 and took a left. I had a vague idea where I was but not exactly sure either. A few turns and several miles later I ended up in Monticello! I did not bring enough food, water, or any money to resupply for a ride this long. I knew I would start to bonk so I started to conserve the food I had left. I tried to avoid riding cty rd 75 back into Clearwater but I ended up taking it. Having to be at work I did not have too much time to explore even more. Around Clearwater I was tapped. Cty rd 75 south of Clearwater sucks. There is not a paved shoulder of any kind and it follow I94 pretty much the entire way. I was into a head wind, struggling to stay positive. I tried to use this as training for the DK200, knowing I will be in similar situations. Brian and I talked about "mind over matter" the other day...I kept thinking about that. I was winning the battle till about a mile past Clearwater. Only 7 miles to home and I was out of gas, desire, and motivation. At the head of the Beaver Island Trail I grabbed the fence and closed my eyes. With the sun warming my body I felt I could have gone to sleep. The last two miles felt like the entire ride...ugh.
At home I scarfed some food, ok a lot of food, and started to shiver uncontrollably. A warm shower and the heat in the car on high helped a bit. I did warm up until an hour or so into work.
Lessoned learned. Bring more food than you need...no matter the ride.
Mike and I are heading out in the dark soon. We both work 10-8 today and still want a ride. Gotta go.
Later.
No time to proof read so sorry if there are more mistakes....than normal!

Isn't that kind of dangerous? - a comment like this only from your mom.
Sucks to bonk when you know it's a possibility and you are somewhat prepared for it... must really suck when you aren't prepared for it at all!
