Friday was good.
I was out pedaling the new All City around 8 am. The plan was to ride the Dirt Bag route and check it out. I forgot the cue sheets so I was on my own and memory. In driving the course with Brian I felt there was more pavement. On the bike however the ratio seemed great. At one point I knew we went right but I wanted to go left. Going left proved to be good so now the course will be going left. Always tweaking to make things better!
The All City is a single speed. Somewhere around mile 65 my legs started to feel a bit mushy. The course isn't terribly hilly, Garmin says about 2500', but it has rollers and the gravel is dry and loose. Hitting the longest section of pavement was a nice recovery before hitting up the last gravel of the ride.
Starting and ending at my house I got about 92 miles in. With the new tweaking of the course we will have to re drive the course. We are taking out sections in efforts to keep the mileage the same or less.
We spent the weekend in SE MN. The weather was beautiful as was our surroundings. I love the bluffs. I spotted several sweet gravel roads, but those were left for another time. Our time was spent visiting, eating, swimming and some casual riding on the Root River Trail. The kids were awesome on the trip down and up, making my gray hair stay put...for now. Overall it was a good weekend. Even got a trip to Trader Joe's!
I hope to get some good rides in for the next couple weeks. I am going to take the first two weeks off the bike in November. Then it will be time to train for the Arrowhead 135 and the TransIowa V7.
I'm ready for snow, I think.
