Da Bike.

O.K. so last time the gear discussion was on me and what I'd be wearing. Now it's time for the bike. Which is an 18" Surly Pugsley. First let's look at how I'm going to carry my stuff. There is a required gear list that all participants must carry with them for the duration of the race, (next post re: gear will lay that stuff out). I hope to go rackless, minus a small front rack to support my sleeping bag. So here you see the frame bag and gas tank bag from Epic Designs. Name has recently been changed to Revelate Designs. Specialized had issues. All the bags I will be using are made by Eric of Revelate. Absolutely awesome, bomb proof bags! I will also be adding a handle bar bag and...

...this seat bag. Sorry for the angled shot. I was too lazy to take the bike down.

Close up of said bags. The frame bag opens to separate compartments on either side.

Gas Tank shot. I keep my food type stuff in here and maybe my camera.
Recently switched to the Salsa Carbon Handlebars. Really like how they feel. Also the Dogwood Designs Pogies are in the shot.

I am using Shimano downtube shifters converted to thumb shifters using Paul Thumbies. Currently it is set up indexed but if I have issues it can be switched to friction.
For grips I have a set of Ergon grips with built in barends. I have also wrapped the grips and brake lever with handlebar tape for additional insulation.

Surly Rolling Daryl rims laced up to Hope Pro 2 hubs, both rear hubs on the front and rear. Pretty light and bomber set up.

The rear wheel.

SLX front and rear der.

e.13/The Hive snow bike specific crank...awesome. Time pedals are the best, no question.

Once again the bike shot.
So that's the bike. Next time or so I will discuss what I am carrying and eating. Fun stuff, huh?
Gym day yesterday and this morning. I somewhat plan on riding the rollers (first of the year) tonight for a bit. We'll see how things pan out.
The temps for the rest of the week appear to be pretty cold. Hope to test my digits in the coldest parts of the week, but feel I am ready.
Later.
