Typical day: wake up, drink coffee, go to pool for 2-3 hours with the kids, eat lunch, go to the beach to read and play in the sand, get Avery coaxed into taking a nap...I'd sometimes join, wake up, shower, go out to dinner, eat ice cream, and finally go to bed. Repeat. Not bad, except I started to feel like a fat blob. I thought about running but really don't want to get hurt before my big rides. It was a needed time off and glad I did it. I am very excited to get back on the bike and tackle the miles.
I was somewhat of a Face Book whore on the trip so many of the pictures may have already been seen. Nonetheless I am posting a few here as well, to break up all the "words".
The trip was also great to help the entire family forget about our crazy week prior to the trip and just overall help us all to recharge our batteries and pull ourselves back together. It truly was much needed and appreciated that we were able to make another trip to Florida. Maybe the last year.
One of the many restaurants, Island Cow.
The food on the island, Sanibel, is pretty good but after a few days of going out I was longing to just have "regular" food. Knowing this may be our last time down we felt we needed to get to many of our favorites just the one last time.
On our way to more ice cream. The ice cream.
The Doritos were Avery's...this kid has a savory tooth.
We got back home to St. Cloud sometime around midnight on Friday. I had hoped to get some hours in on the bike on Saturday but the crazy wind and cold had me making excuses and I headed to the gym instead. I fully anticipated to run later in the day but the weather pretty much sucked, my stomach was a bit "twisted" from Florida, and the whole bad knee thing kept me at home laying low with the family for just one more day.
Other randomness:

Sunday was back to work but before hand Brian and I got out for a 2 hour 15 minute ride. 30 minutes in I was cold and feeling pretty out of shape. About an hour later I came around and was feeling pretty good. Nothing hurt, the legs felt fresh, and mentally I wanted to "go"! That's good. Only 6 weeks left till TransIowa V7!
Tomorrow I start some more focused training. I hope to get some good hours in this week. I won't be doing too much more for gym time, except for some core and light lifting. The diet is also going to get a kick-in-the-ass tomorrow as well. I need to deprive myself of calories this week. I'm not going to go crazy but in a good and healthy way. I also hope to hit up some sauna sessions at the Anderson house hold and the gym to help the detox process!
Other randomness:
- Tuesday marks the start of our weekly 5:30 rides. Meet at Revolution and get down. It's early this year with daylight savings ending sooner but the weather appears to be cooperating.
- Race Face Products closed it's doors after 18 years. Big bummer. I have had several of their cranks, stems, and handlebars over the years and have had nothing but great success with them. Sad to see them go.
- Brian and I have started the process of reworking some of the "ins and outs" of the DirtBag. We hope to land some sponsors this year! And, of course, make it bigger and better.
- AGRS, Almanzo Gravel Race Series, which the DirtBag is the last race in the series, has announced that the overall female and male winner of the series will receive a custom frame from a local builder! Freaking sweet. I'm too lazy to look up the link for you so you will just have to do it yourselves. It's on the DirtBag site too.
- We, Revolution Cycle and Ski, have picked up some new lines and products for the summer. Giant Bicycles, Giro footwear, Pro Bar, maybe a new bag line for mid summer, Rotor chain rings, an expanded Hammer Nutrition selection, plus more. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I keep thinking I would like to have a "gravel grinder" section in the store but realize that it's such a niche market. Maybe someday.
- In Florida I finished the book "The Long Road". Just awesome...read it.
The end.
