Well just like the ride, this post isn't going to go as planned. Took some photos during the ride, but blogger will not upload them due to an internal error. So more words.
I figured we had plenty of time to do 100 miles by 9:30, but what I didn't figure was time for flats, we had two in the first 20 minutes, time to refuel, a late start, time to meet late riders, time to find dropped riders, etc.
For the first 67 miles we were flying. We were averaging 23+ mph. But that pace was a bit wicked for some. Mike and I went back to haul in the dropped riders. The main field was never to be seen again. Dicks. Ha, just kidding. I was bummed at the time not to be riding with everyone else, 18 riders strong! But after hearing they took 75 back I'm ok with that. 75 sucks to bike on. That is where the issue came. I believe they did wait on 75 for a bit but when we never showed they pushed on. Since 75 does suck to bike on that was never the plan. We took 39 back, plus some others. The route had to be adjusted due to dwindling day light.
Eventually Mike and I just sat up front and went. The riders with us were on or they were off. Everyone knew where they were so it was time to get home.
We got back to the shop at 10 or a bit after. 104 miles with 21 mph average. Still a good ride. Not as planned but that's not how most things go....not as planned.
My family was home for a bit over 24 hours and now they are all gone again till Thursday evening. So I will ride...again.
Later.
