A Few Screws Loose.

As time passes memories tend to get all mushed together. So my recap may not be 100% accurate but close.

After the Thursday MTB ride, which was awesome, I rode 102 miles on Friday. The heat, humidity, and previous days of riding had me whupped. I was definitely dragging a bit at work on Friday.

I did have the weekend off plus Monday, as the shop was closed. Three days off! We headed up to Jen's parent's cabin near Onamia. I decided to bike up on Saturday. I got a later start than planned but the weather was awesome so it didn't matter. There was a pretty good headwind the entire trip, making my average slower, but I was out to just spin. 65 miles in 3.5+ hours.

Sunday was a planned day off. My legs felt pretty good just standing around but once cycling I could tell the "pop" was gone. This was my intended effect from all the riding. I was then going to bike home on Monday. However, once the time came for me to depart the excused started to come to me:
The wind switched so it was a headwind again.
The roads don't have shoulders so the 4th of July traffic would be too busy.
I could use another day off.
But the biggest was just having to time to hang out and swim with the kids.
The latter won out and that is what I did!

I have a few screws loose in my head. After making the decision not to bike home I fretted about all the crap food I've eaten since arriving at the cabin. Another excuse, but true, is many of the other groups of people at the cabins, (it's an old resort parted out to individual cabins. Everyone knows everyone.), spent a good portion of the time drinking. Not sure why but this was one of the hardest times I had not drinking. I wasn't afraid I would drink but had the desire to drink. I guess not even that but more, "why did I have to mess it up in the past so I can't drink know?". So to deal with that I drank way too many Diet Dr. Peppers and ate a lot of crap. So I currently feel like a blob!
But today is another day and time to get back at it. Tuesday ride tonight. I still plan on taking it easy this week to fully recover from the many hours and miles put in over the past 10 days. Because honestly, why do I ride so much? To keep up on the Tuesday rides? Be a bit faster in the next 100 mile gravel race? Yes, but more importantly I do really like it and it makes me happy. With that it's time to just go for a ride...any ride.

Last night we finished the weekend of gluttony with a trip to the DQ and a fire in the backyard. We can't really see the fireworks but can hear them, so that is what we did. That and took pictures. Well Avery and Brinna did.
Here are the results.

Brinna.

Me and the guns?!

Huh?

Avery.

Brinna and her guns!

Overall it was a great few days. I am excited to be back home with the entire family and ready to start summer here!

The week ahead brings the Tuesday ride tonight.

Thursday we have the bike to the ball game night. I'm pretty excited for this. We are closing early, 5 pm, on Thursday so we can bike to the River Bats game. Please join us if you can. Jen, the girls, myself, and my parents are coming...so it's a casual cruise over to the game. Tickets are $12. This gets you into the game, a picnic meal, and secure bike parking. Call the shop with questions.

Word has it that the storm the came through on Friday toppled numerous trees at the North Loop. A trail work night is being planned. Once a date is nailed down I will post here.

Later.

cravings and temptation will always be there, but you have done a great job of not giving into them...even if it means you have to eat some comfort food to do it. It is still worth it as I am sure you know.

No screws loose. Just part of the process, and you're doing a great job staying sober. You'll bike off all those "bad" calories in one outing. MOM
