Just learned that Lifetime Fitness bought the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. Read it here.
They have also purchases the Leadville 100 races and started a gravel/mtb race up in Lutsen. Not to forget the tri they put on as well, plus more.
I hope that their acquisition of these events do not taint nor deminish the overall quality and allure that they once had. Heck, they may even make it better.
Maybe it's just me. I already stopped doing the Chequamegon. Too many people wanted in and too many people were doing it. With the growing popularity of endurance events Leadville has become much the same. Maybe that is why I like gravel races so much, but even they are becoming just that, more of a race and less of an event.
I received a comment that I shouldn't have the DirtBag during cross season. Part of that is by design and part for logistics with my life, etc. Keep the true gravel grinders in and weed out the few that do it when they don't have a road race or cross race to do.
So maybe my focus should be winter racing, like the Arrowhead 135. Still only done by a handful of crazies and I'm happy to be apart of that!
Or maybe I'm just getting old and things aren't like they used to be. I am a Doom and am pretty stubborn and set in my ways. What the hell will I be like when I'm 50? Look out!
Out.

word I agree, F lifetime, and the corporate world its more about profit and less about the people! I didn't even like working out there they just try to pack as many people in to that place as they could, and there was never room to do your work outs and its over prices! Heres to the grass root movement!
Thanksgiving would be a great time for an epic Doom/Rev gravel or epic something or another event. Would let the CXers(selfish me)in and keep some of the masses out because of the time of year. Plus everyone interested would be fueled up with alot of unwanted calories.
