Not as Planned, but Still Great.

I departed from work yesterday morning, for a ride, just shy of 6:30 a.m. Daylight is definitely dwindling. The amount of daylight at 6:30 use to be at 5:30...time for the flashers.
I truly did not have a route or exact time in mind. The wind was not that strong but coming from the west so west I went. I was planning on something like 4 hours.

I ran into Mike on his way home. He turned and road with me for a bit. We don't get to ride together very often as our work schedules usually have one of us working while the other is not. Actually that seems to be the case with a lot of the guys I work with. Glad I love my iPod.

After having a couple days off the legs were sluggish and heavy at first but after an hour they felt pretty good. They are still not 100% but that's ok. I don't have anything looming in the future so I'm just riding to ride.

When I head west I usually end up going SW or NW but the last couple of times I went plain 'ol west. It's nice to find new roads and ride through towns you haven't been to before. I was careful to watch the time so I wouldn't be late to work. At St. Martin I headed north up through New Munich and across 94 between Melrose and Freeport. Hit the Wobegon till Albany then got on Quaker road to Tower Road to Avon. From Avon I did Fruit Farm to SJU to 7 Wonders to St. Joe and back to the shop.
My time calculating has not been so great lately. I always marveled at how spot on I could get to my prescribed ride times. But not this ride, or the past several. Ended just under 5 hours and 95 miles. The ride was fun, casual, and great for the legs and soul.

Today I plan on an hour trail run. We'll see how many spider webs I can collect on my face. If anyone was in the woods watching me run into the webs would laugh. I don't do well with bugs in general, besides ticks...they don't freak me out, weird. Anyway I flail my arms around trying to remove all the web, only to repeat the process 10 feet down the trail. I figure I get a full body work out when I run!

Next week I have off and the family and I are headed up to the North Shore. I hope the weather is like yesterday. We plan on doing some camping and some hotel staying, along with some hiking, eating, rock collecting, etc. It's all good on the North Shore.

Later.
