Through out the winter I've continued to do longer rides but something is to be said about doing a long ride in just jersey and shorts...I long for those day. Ha, ha, ha...I funny man.
One of the comments from yesterday's request for blog ideas got me thinking about what I think about on longer rides. As I've stated before I prefer doing rides solo. This frees me up to ride where I want, how I want, and for how long I want. But also it allows me to think. 4-7 hours in the saddle offers some good "thinking" time. I do ride with music but most of the time it's background noise.
My thoughts range. Usually if I have anything "pressing" at work or home that will demand most of my time. I do the "what if" a lot too. My favorite is "what if I won the lottery"? Funny, since I've never bought a ticket.
I plan rides, races, routes that never happen, I find houses to buy, plan the nights meal, scheme my next bike, scheme on how to convince Jen I need another bike, and on and on. Sometimes I have so much going on in my head I have to concentrate on the music to get back reality and focus!
This is hard to do in the winter. Most of my energy and thoughts are focused on keeping warm or on the pain I'm experiencing from cold hands, etc. So now a lot of my thoughts are on summer and green trees. I'm a good Minnesotan: always not happy with the current weather!
Later.
