In the past few days we've received something like 9" of snow. Yesterday at work I talked to one person about skis. Everything else was bikes! People have the itch.
I too have the itch for clean roads, sunny skies, and a stripped down kit.
Yesterday I got out for 3.5 hours on the Surly CrossCheck. Rode parts of the Dirt Bag course. It's been a long time that I finished a ride with an average speed in the double digits. It felt pretty damn nice to be moving along at a decent clip...without killing myself to do it! While a bit slick in spots, the gravel roads are super fast! Go hit 'em up.
As fun as that was I know I have a long season of that ahead and just a few weeks left of snowmobile trails suitable for riding. Shooting for both Friday and Sunday for some Fat Bike action. Maybe some nordic on Saturday before work.
Avery is staying home again today from school. It's been since Saturday. She's feeling better but she had some high temps yesterday. Not worth pushing it. Thank God for mom's and dad's! Not me...but mine for watching Avery, again.
On the ride yesterday I found myself thinking of the races I wanted to do. Damn...there are a lot of cool events out there.
April: TransIowa
May: Alexander
June: Dirty Benjamin & Chequamegon 100
July:
August: The Rusty Ride 100, maybe the MahDaHey 100
September: Heck of the North and Metal Cross
October: Dirt Bag running and Cross
November: Cross
December: Tuscobia 150
January: Arrowhead 135
A full, fun season. Not sure if all will happen for me but that's the plan.
Later.
