Friday: Worked noon-8 so that means morning riding! Took out the Pugsley and aimed for some snowmobile trails. While the temp was cold the new snow had not been packed enough making for some slow, hard going. I stopped and let some air out of my tires, which helped a lot for traction and float. I must not have closed the valve all the way because a few miles later when I got on a pavement section it was all but flat. My pumps were at home in my hydration pack and in my frame bag on the Mukluk. Crap. I was about 8 miles from a friends house. I hoped like hell he was home. On the road I could average 7 mph and on the trail 5. It was slow.
He was home! Thanks Todd. Back up to a good amount of psi and I was on my way. Not even late for work! 3.5 hours.
Saturday: Worked 10-6. Gym day. Elliptical and kettle bells. Blood blisters and regular blisters. My hands hate me.
Sunday: Met up with a few others at the St. Joseph Park-n-Ride. Hit the trails and found they were in great shape. In the open sections, where the snowmobiles opened it up and went every which way, the going was a bit slow but overall fine. We made our way over to Richmond, back down to Cold Spring, and then back up to St. Joe. The group split in half at an intersection with cty rd 2 and the trail. Some went straight in while Josh and I took the trail back.
With the rising temps and going with the wind Josh and I became overheated pretty fast. The trail also started to fall apart on us. Spinning out was common. We were now backtracking on a section of trail we came out on. The groomer had been out since we passed over it this morning.
Ha! Those guys took the road and missed this!
Ha on us...it was worse! The trail didn't have time to set up so maintaining any kind of speed was work. We both lowered our psi and found a groove that pushed us to the end. 4 hours 10 minutes.
A good few days.
Nothing really planned for this week. Just more of the same.
Gym today.
Later.
