I was off from work yesterday so planned a longer ride. After getting Harper to school I stalled getting out for my ride as it was only 20 degrees. In an hour it only jumped 2 degrees. If I wanted a longer ride I had to go, so I did.
I took the Salsa Cutthroat. I planned on hitting gravel and thought the bigger, 2.2, tires would help with the softness of Spring gravel. Too lazy to swap out pedals so I could wear warmer shoes I put on some vapor barriers. The toes were cold but manageable.
Once I hit gravel I was happy to have the bigger tires. Even with it being chilly the gravel was still a bit soft. As the day wore on it only got softer.
Because it was a NW wind I hit up the gravel around Swanville. I don't get out there much but when I do I always enjoy it. Rolling hills, narrow roads, and no cars.
Around 12:30 I made my turn for home but the road I took kept bringing me further West. So around 1:00 I actually made my turn for home.
Having the tail wind made the trip home fast. Plus I ended up on a bit more pavement as I had a schedule to keep. Finished with 112 miles in just under 7 hours.
At home I didn't have time to shower. I changed picked up Harper. Back home they (Avery and Harper) got ready for gymnastics. I dropped them off and came home to shower and eat. Got a text from Brinna saying track was done early. Back in the car. Finally able to take a quick shower and grab some food before picking up the kids and heading to the Skating Place for a school fundraiser. Fast night!
Crap weather looks to be moving in for the long haul. Bummed! Hoping the snow misses us.
