Not a very smooth blog but it works!

I lucked out with having yesterday off and the weather being nice.  Sunny skies and a straight southern wind.  Dirt Bag time!  I toyed with the idea of taking out the studded, single speed Surly Cross Check but opted for the Mukluk, also with studs.  Super glad I did!  The gravel roads were either great gravel or rutted up icy messes.  Even with studded fat bike tires I did some slipping and sliding.

I kept waffling back and forth if I'd do the whole Dirt Bag course (from the early years) or not.  I set up some cut off times at turnaround points.  At both I was ok with time and pushed on.  I was feeling good and had the time so why not was my response.

Despite having ridden fat bikes for years now I still get thrown off by the time difference, compared to a "gravel" bike.  Also the amount of effort required to move the meaty, studded tires at 12mph!

The wind felt stronger than the weather app was suggesting.  When the time came to finally turn north the effort was immediately knocked down a few steps.  The last 1/3 of the course tends to have more pavement.  Tailwind, pavement, and studded tires....noisy!

Ride details.  Top number is the temp and the bottom is average speed.

I'm happy with how I felt on the ride and more importantly how I feel now.  Not bad!  Good enough to hit the rower once Harper is on the bus.

Tomorrow night at 6:00 the MMCC is hosting it's 2nd Full Moon Fat Bike Ride.  This time at Quarry Park.  Last time we had 20 riders and it was cold.  Hoping we can break that.  Come on out if you can.  Super casual, fun time.

Sunday Avery has gymnastics in Becker so I'll be there.  The Bike Swap is going on in Blaine as well.  I'll miss it this year but am sending a bin of parts with the fellas to hopefully sell for me.

Kind of random thoughts on today's blog...oh well!

Happy Weekend.
