Another reason Spring is the worst season...WIND. We got a good helping of wind this weekend, with Sunday being the worse of the two. Which was the day a handful of us headed out for a ride. We met at my house since it was an East wind and getting out of town is easy from my place. It was decided to take pavement on the way out and gravel on the way back. The wind was flirting with 20mph all day, with higher gusts.
We made our way out to the Sherburne Wildlife Refuge. The Wildlife Drive (7 mile gravel loop) is still closed to cars but open to pedestrians. That was some soft, energy sucking gravel! From there we headed North past hwy 95 before turning back home on gravel and a glorious tailwind. On the single speed I ran out of gear several times. I'm getting the "spinning" thing back however. Still loving the bike.
Ride time was a tad over 4 hours and Saturday was 3.5 hours.
Saturday afternoon Jen, Brinna, Harper and I took Toby out to Toby's Trails. I knew they would be wet and muddy but Toby needed a bath anyway so figured he should have some fun first. Wow. If you thought the trails from the East entrance were rough this winter you should see them without snow! And yes there was a bunch of water. We ended up full on bushwhacking a section back to the car. It was much longer than I anticipated! Toby loved it though. I put my GPS watch on Toby's collar from the start. We did 2.5 mile while he almost doubled that!
It's already double digit winds out of the east this morning. Plus below freezing. The legs need a day off so today seems like a good day. I'm still deciding if I'm biking to work or not. We may get 1-3" of sloppy snow this afternoon. Yuck.
