I know the pictures aren't great quality and tiny but hey another picture! I didn't get out till after dinner last night so I decked myself and the bike out with lights. The above picture was right before I needed to turn them on. I posted the picture to Instagram as I did the picture from the previous post. Man I get so much shit for using Aero Bars!
I'll be the first to admit using aero bars on a group road ride is gouache and potentially unsafe. But using them on my "gravel" bikes has given me another position to ride in, thus more comfortable. I'm not going fast enough to render them useful as a more "aero" position. It's all about comfort! So suck it all you aero bar haters!
As the sun set the temperature fell as well. At the end I had cold hands and numb big toes! I could have used knee warmers, toe covers, and apparently warmer gloves...stupid fingers. Despite that the ride was amazing. Essentially no wind, darkness, and some new gravel roads made it an adventure that went by all too quickly. Definitely a ride that I wish could have gone on.
I ended with 3.5 hours.
I usually work the afternoon shift on Wednesday but this week I have the day shift. I'm taking the day off from riding and helping shuttle the kids to their respective events. Monday and Wednesday are our nuts nights. Jen usually does Wednesdays solo so it's high time I lend a hand.
Mid Week!
FYI...The Dirt Bag (see link on the upper right sidebar) is this coming Sunday with 3 distances to choose from: 30, 60, or 80. John and his wife put on an excellent event with even better food. If you're free this Sunday I'd highly consider making this event. You won't regret it!

I'm an aero lover. That and bar ends (maybe a 90's thing?). I agree that having another position is nice but I also like being able to duck out of hard winds and I have noticed that on the downhills aero seems to give a pretty good advantage over those that don't. And on rolling hill sections I am able to use that extra speed to get farther up the next hill. They also give you a little extra real estate for your gear. I am a novice and so things may change but for now they stay. Chris Hill.
