I've been bumming about our lack of snow and cold lately. To counter that I decided yesterday I'd go play a bit in Morrison County on the fat bike. Lots of their gravel roads are loose and/or sandy. Great for mimicking snow. I was on my way north a bit after 8:00. The wind was W/NW or so they said. It seemed kind of weird. I never really had a great tailwind but rather some sort of headwind at all times. Instead of getting pissed I told myself the grind was good at also mimicking the work that riding on snow provides.
I had planned to jump on the Soo Line Trail (ATV trail) some as well but the gates were still closed. I thought it was just for deer season but turns out it's the month of November. So further North I went. I ended up riding around Little Falls and through Camp Ripley. On the way home I manage to piece together a mostly gravel route. For the day I'd say 3/4 was gravel, but I'm bad at estimating.
The ride ended with 8.25 hours and 112 miles. Unlike the last time I rode a century on the fat bike I brought way more food than I thought I'd need. I ate it all! Apparently that slow grind gets me hungry!
I'd like to get an easy spin in this afternoon/evening after work but going with the flow. Not too sure on plans at the moment.
Saturday is Global Fat Bike Day. Our local club is putting on a ride. I'll hit that up and then spend the rest of the day moving stuff into our house. Yep, we may actually move back into our home after 8 months! We've encountered a lot of hiccups along the way so we aren't banking on it. We will start the process and if it works it works. If not, then next weekend.
Happy Weekend.
